Old Town Chania
Old Town Chania wraps you in a dreamy blend of Venetian and Ottoman charm at every turn. Wander through narrow cobblestone streets that lead to the stunning harbour with its iconic lighthouse. The lively Central Market buzzes with local energy while historic sites like ancient city walls tell tales of Mediterranean history. Mosque-turned-museums stand beside Orthodox churches in this cultural patchwork. The waterfront restaurants serve fresh seafood and authentic Cretan dishes with perfect harbour views. Most visitors stay in boutique hotels housed in restored Venetian buildings with character-filled stone walls and courtyards. This pedestrian-friendly district is best explored on foot, with local buses connecting to beaches and Chania's newer areas.

Nea Chora
Nea Chora beach offers the perfect mix of golden sand, shallow turquoise waters, and authentic Greek charm without the tourist crush. The promenade buzzes with locals fishing, families swimming, and friends chatting at waterfront tavernas serving fresh-caught seafood. Traditional fishing boats bob in the small harbour while the Mediterranean breeze carries the scent of grilled octopus and wild herbs. Budget-friendly apartments and family hotels line the waterfront, just a short bus ride from Chania's Old Town. Tavernas serve Cretan specialities at prices lower than the tourist centers, and the flat, walkable terrain makes exploring a breeze. When the sun sets, join locals for evening strolls along the illuminated promenade.

Koum Kapi
Koum Kapi's seaside promenade winds along Chania's harbour, where ancient Venetian walls meet the sparkling Mediterranean. You'll find postcard-perfect views at every turn as you stroll past honey-colored buildings with Ottoman wooden balconies. Snag a spot at one of the waterfront tavernas or take a refreshing dip at the small pebble beaches tucked between weathered stones. Fresh seafood dominates the dining scene, with catch-of-the-day specials served on terraces overlooking the water. Boutique guesthouses and converted stone houses offer charming accommodation with personal service. The neighborhood's walkability makes it easy to explore both the historic waterfront and nearby old town without needing a car.

Halepa
Halepa's elegant neoclassical mansions transport you to Crete's diplomatic golden age. Cream and ochre facades line quiet streets where history whispers through ornate balconies and shuttered windows. The hilltop Venizelos Family Tombs reward your climb with breathtaking harbour panoramas, while the restored Russian Hospital stands as a testament to 19th-century political intrigue. A handful of traditional tavernas serve authentic Cretan dishes in this peaceful residential enclave. Most visitors stay in upscale holiday rentals housed in lovingly restored historic buildings. The steep terrain challenges walkers but rewards with exercise and stunning vistas, making Halepa perfect for travellers seeking authentic Greek area life.

Chania Town
Wander through Chania Town's honey-colored maze of history where Ottoman minarets and Byzantine domes create a living timeline. The gorgeous Venetian Harbour buzzes with energy while cobblestone streets lead to artisan workshops and hidden courtyards. You'll find the lighthouse standing sentinel as fishing boats bob alongside sleek yachts in the crystal Mediterranean waters. Waterfront tavernas dish up fresh seafood and Cretan specialities while traditional kafeneia offer morning coffee with locals. Most sights are within easy walking distance, though those cobblestones demand comfy shoes. Boutique hotels in restored Venetian mansions put you right in the heart of this enchanting seaside gem.

Learn more about Chania
Venetian splendour meets Mediterranean charm in a harbour where fishing boats bob against a backdrop of Ottoman minarets and Venetian lighthouses. The Old Town's labyrinthine alleys reveal surprises at every turn – a Byzantine wall fragment here, a hidden courtyard restaurant there. Maritime history comes alive at the Naval Museum, housed in a centuries-old fortress. Agia Marina Beach offers perfect swimming conditions just outside the city, while Nea Chora Beach provides a more local experience with tavernas serving the morning's catch. The Municipal Art Gallery showcases Cretan artists in a restored Venetian building. For the best harbour views, arrive at sunset when the lighthouse casts a golden glow across ancient waters.

JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa
"This is a relatively new resort. The experience was very relaxing. Staff well trained. Very nice arrival experience. Restaurants were ok but not exceptional. Italian menu was relatively limited. There are a number of snagging items that need to be addressed in the room. Also staff forgot to refresh drinking water in our room on our second day. Swimming in the sea was incredible. All in all we came away very relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed the experience."
Samaria Hotel
"Great central location to downtown Xania. The staff though is what made it excellent. I wish I could list them all by name! If you go, engage the staff. They will give you recommendations for some unique experiences besides the beaches and souvenir stores. Thank you all! P.S. There is a killer hole-in-the-wall, mom and pop type of gyro stand across the street. They make them right, unlike the some of the attempts in the USA."

Hyperion City Hotel
"Very helpful and friendly staff especially Katarina ! Great position away from all the hussle and bustle yet within easy walking distance to the old Town to get into the thick of it. Happily stay again!"
Atlantica Amalthia Beach Hotel – Adults only
"We had an amazing stay at this hotel. The room and grounds were immaculate and the staff in all areas could not have been more friendly and helpful. We loved the pool area and the beach. The breakfast was wonderful, lots of choice and nothing was ever empty."
Kiani Beach Resort Family
"The hotel catered for what you want. We came here thinking it was 5 star all inclusive but in fact it was more like a 4 star. You need to upgrade to get the branded alcohol, or water in bottles. It’s definitely geared towards alcohol. The food is good. There isn’t much to eat throughout the day in terms of snacks. Ice cream in tubs and homemade sandwiches. The pool is lovely and the views are fab. The vibe is nice. Hospitality is lovely and people enjoy themselves. The pool is the best part for me. Mr Marx at customer relations is fantastic. He is friendly, helpful and very personal. He takes an interest in you and remembers things you’ve spoken about and is really informative. All hotels should have someone like him. And he speaks 7 languages!!"
Aulus Chania All-Inclusive Resort, Curio Collection by Hilton - Adults Only
"Must go property!"
Morum City Hotel Chania
"Very clean hotel and in a good position for town centre not far from the beech either."

A stay of at least 5 to 6 days offers great value for money, providing ample opportunity to explore the town's rich heritage and cultural attractions. You can visit a variety of landmarks and historical sites, including charming cafes, monuments, a beach, a port, museums, historical areas, a marina, and archaeological sites, all of which promise a relaxing experience steeped in history and culture.
- Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: For your trip to Chania, you may discover exciting hotel deals by exploring the DealsOpens in a new window section on Hotels.com. You could find attractive last-minute discounts by checking the Last-Minute Deals area, where rates close to travel dates may be more affordable. Additionally, the Smart Shopping tool on the app allows travellers to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you're more likely to see competitive offers and be alerted to any drops or availability changes for your preferred hotels.
- Be flexible with dates: Prices may vary depending on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and time of year, so being flexible with your dates could help you save on your stay in a Chania hotel. For those in search of distinctive accommodations, boutique hotels may offer a more personalised experience and sometimes better value. When you book with Hotels.com, we will inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average, and if it appears higher, we may suggest more affordable dates to help you find a better deal.
- Consider your location: Hotels near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive, but with Chania’s excellent public transport links, you might find a more affordable independent hotel further afield that remains well connected. For those wishing to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often excellent value for money. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
