Great stay! Our room overlooked the bay/river/lake (don't quite know which one it was) on the 4th floor. We booked a Japanese style room, and slept on floor futons.
It was surprisingly comfortable for us even though we are very tall and double the size of locals. Our kids were loud at times even though we tried to tame them as much as possible. The staff did not complain that they weren't quiet and compliant--which was a relief. The location was fantastic for walking to local places to eat. We wish that we had made reservations ahead of time at the Willows and had had the opportunity to speak with James a little longer than we did at check in. His restaurant in the hotel along with many restaurants in the area are fully booked on weekends with out reservations and closed on Sunday/Monday. Check and book in advance if you're interested in eating out. There is a FamilyMart and 7-11 within walking distance and a microwave in the lobby. Our room had a hot water heater and mini fridge. We did not eat the buffet breakfast therefor we cannot comment on it. The view from our room was beautiful day and night. We went to bird sanctuary, and national park which are within driving distance--both were great. On a previous visit I had taken a boat tour around the castle in fall which I loved. We love Matsue and will return again. Thank you for the lovely stay.
Ohashikan is a long established hotel and we weren't sure how it would measure up. But it far exceeded our expectations. Nicely refurbished city view room on floor 5. Very comfy beds and bedding, efficient air con and superb breakfast. Public baths a very welcome bonus.
