Do not count on public transit like metro (only a small line) or buses (large time gaps on certain days) all the time to get to attractions (kind of far apart). Book a taxi for half a day or full days to have a custom tour experience at a good value.

I really enjoyed the pastries from different vendors. Food is extremely cheap. Remember to bring cash for small shops. Main hop to Sun Moon Lake and Lallaport for shopping.

Loved Taichung. If you can only visit one night market, pick Yizhong Street Night Market. You won't regret it. Plenty of food options and great vibes.

Much better in the Downtown area, for general overall services and shopping, restaurant, but this section is more, closer to the people. If it is what you like.
"Located in the enter of old Taichung city close to the main train station. Good restaurants and confectioneries are within walking distance. Room is spacious, and the king bed is way bigger than its counterpart you see in America. "
"We really enjoyed our stay at The Splendor and would stay again. The hotel is in a great location, close to shopping and restaurants. It's also a short walk to the botanical gardens. Our room was very clean. It's an older hotel so a bit shabby in places. Scuff marks on the walls for example. Also the beds are very hard, but I was told this is typical in that area. Overall a lovely stay though."
"We stayed in the Deluxe Family Room, which was perfect for the 4 of us because of its space (2 full beds, 2 showers) and adjacent TV room with a sofa. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet (Chinese food, fruits, pastries) and the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The smart TV allows you to cast if you have streaming services overseas. The surrounding area has convenience stores but there is a need to ride a cab to major attractions or train station."
