Take Your Chances
Despite a check-in time of 4 pm, we got into the two rooms I booked after 4:30 pm (we arrived at 3:30 PM hoping they might be available) - they weren't, and the front desk suggested that we wait by the pool. Once there, the expected sound of waves splashing on the nearby Atlantic shore was drowned out by the loud noise of construction or cleaning equipment being used by workers at the hotel - possibly supporting roof repair or the carpet cleaning mentioned by the front desk as the reason why our rooms weren't ready. BTW, there was no information regarding maintenance work on the website when I booked the reservations. My room was clean, the layout was great, and everything worked - I couldn't have been happier. The second room for other family members showed signs of damage (a picture torn off the wall was left on the floor leaning against the wall, a door jamb was split as if someone tried to kick it in, a broken toilet seat, and the bathroom floor was filthy (he has pictures) with chunks of dirt/hair in the corners. Were my friends given the "penalty room" because they dared to complain about check-in time not being honored? The hotel made no apology for the inconvenience. Breakfast at the hotel's Seascape Restaurant the following day was enjoyable in the brightly lit room overlooking the ocean, but we weren't sorry to check out and move on. Thoughts: Are check-in times meaningless? If one complains about mistreatment, should they expect revenge? Yes, to both at the NSB BW.
