Review for Sigiriya Village Hotel – Sigiriya, Sri Lanka
I recently stayed at Sigiriya Village Hotel, and overall, it was a pleasant and memorable experience. The room was comfortable, and the stay itself was enjoyable. Breakfast was a highlight — fresh, tasty, and with a good variety of options. The Sri Lankan rice and curries I ordered during my stay were also delicious and full of flavour.
That said, there were a couple of maintenance issues in the room, which I have already shared directly with Krishanth and the front desk. Above the ceiling fan, the paint on the ceiling had peeled off and had fallen directly onto the bed — not ideal, and potentially unpleasant if a child or family member had been sleeping there. The bathroom tap was quite loose, and there was a strong smell coming from the toilet/basin area that could use attention.
My main disappointment was with one à la carte dinner. I waited almost an hour for my meal, and it took some time to find a staff member to check on the order. When the food arrived, there were two issues:
• The nasi goreng did not resemble or taste like nasi goreng — it was pale, lacked the typical sauce, and was flavourless.
• The Jaffna prawn curry appeared to have been made with cold-water prawns in a yellowish coconut butter, which was quite different from what I was expecting. I had anticipated at least tiger prawns (or an equivalent) in a darker, reddish, richly spiced sauce.
At first, no one was available to address the complaint
