Zona Dorada buzzes with energy where golden beaches meet the Pacific Ocean along Mazatlán's scenic malecón. Beach lovers flock to Punta Camaron and Playa Brujas, while shoppers explore Sea Shell City Museum and nearby markets. The area comes alive after dark with beachfront restaurants serving fresh seafood under swaying palms. Getting around is a breeze with colourful local buses and abundant taxis cruising the hotel corridor. Accommodation options range from mid-range to luxury beachfront resorts with pools overlooking the ocean. The area's tourist-friendly vibe means English is widely spoken throughout this lively coastal playground.
Centro Historico
Centro Historico's cobblestone streets showcase Mazatlán's colonial past with beautifully restored 19th-century buildings and the iconic Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Plaza Machado buzzes with cafes and art galleries while the Angela Peralta Theatre hosts cultural events that celebrate local traditions. Olas Altas Beach is just steps away when you need a break from sightseeing. Traditional Sinaloan seafood dominates the dining scene, from fresh shrimp to mouthwatering fish tacos. Boutique hotels in restored colonial buildings offer charming accommodation with traditional Mexican touches. The compact layout makes the area easily walkable, with local buses and taxis connecting you to other parts of the city.
Marina Mazatlan
Marina Mazatlan dazzles with its yacht-filled harbour and upscale waterfront scene. Stroll the palm-lined promenades where luxury condos overlook the Pacific. Golf enthusiasts can tee off at championship courses while beach lovers soak up sun at Cerritos Beach or the mysteriously named Witches Beach. Art galleries and boutiques offer stylish browsing between ocean dips. Dining here means fresh seafood with million-dollar views—ceviche tastes better when yachts bob in the background. Choose from beachfront resorts or marina-view condos for your stay. While public transit is limited, the neighborhood's wide walkways make exploring on foot (or rented golf cart) a breeze.
Downtown Mazatlan
City centre Mazatlan's cobblestone streets and pastel colonial buildings create a pocket of Mexican heritage with a salty breeze. Plaza Machado buzzes with mariachi music while the Angela Peralta Theatre showcases ballet and opera in red velvet splendour. Beachgoers can stroll to nearby Olas Altas Beach or Playa Norte for sunshine breaks between museum visits and gallery hopping. Seafood restaurants serve fresh aguachile and pescado zarandeado at wallet-friendly prices. Stay in charming boutique hotels housed in restored colonial mansions with interior courtyards. The area's walkable grid makes exploring easy, though cobblestones call for comfortable shoes.
El Cid
El Cid delivers luxury living against the backdrop of Mazatlán's gorgeous Pacific coastline. Golfers flock to the championship courses overlooking the ocean, while beach lovers soak up the sun on golden sands. The marina buzzes with yacht activity and waterfront dining spots where fresh seafood and sunset views come standard. Water sports enthusiasts can dive right in, or simply lounge by one of many resort pools. Getting around is easiest by resort shuttle or taxi, with golf carts popular for shorter trips. High-end hotels and oceanfront condos dominate the accommodation scene, complete with spas and concierge services. While El Cid offers a polished resort experience, you'll need to venture beyond its manicured grounds to experience authentic Mexican culture.
When the beach is calling your name, you might want to head down to Olas Altas Beach, located 3.8 mi (6.1 km) from central Mazatlán. If you want to continue walking by the waves, head to Los Pinos Beach located nearby.

This was our first time to Mazatlan, and we went for the 4/9/2024 eclipse so there was a lot going on. City has much more of an authentic Mexican feel and certainly less Americanized than Cancun. In town a lot to eat and do. The market is a must do!

We fell in love with Mazatlan on our first trip four years ago. Is it all beautiful, no, but overwall it is a wonderful city and we will continue to visit. The presence of military/police/militia was much higher this year, but we were never afraid.
