Looked filthy dirty and run down.
The hotel was shut, nobody had bothered to let me know, so after a 3 hour drive I was left stranded, I had to find myself another hotel with actually no help from hotels dot com.

Don’t book this place
This is a terrible hotel, they’ve used photos of near by attractions to give the idea that this is the hotel. The room is in major need of repair, sockets not working and I booked a king size bed. This is a small double bed
Only one socket working, hence the 4 way

The hotel looks abandoned. The mattress and duvet were brown and stained and the hotel smelt. The ‘secure’ car is full of old fridges, debris and beer cans. We were so horrified we left straight away and booked the travel lodge down the road. Avoid at all costs! We were unable to get our money back either. There is simply no pride taken in the establishment & in all honesty I think it should be shut due to health and safety reasons. Worst hotel I’ve ever seen.

2/10 Poor

We arrived to the property and the lobby was torn apart and cluttered. We then carried our bags up three flights of stairs (no lift) only to find the rooms don’t have air conditioning. It was 29 degrees Celsius outside and the room was stifling. There were crumbs on the carpet clearly not vacuumed. We spoke with the management who said Expedia would contact them and they’d give us a full refund but Expedia couldn’t get them to answer. We checked out 10 minutes after arriving. It was awful.

Lovely place to stay, needs a few touches here and there like shower curtains and extractor fan, but perfect value for money, especially with secure car park, would definitely come back!

The property has obviously been neglected for years and it shows! The lovely young lady who was the only member of staff we saw did her best, but the hotel really needs a lot of attention. A great shame, because it has a town centre position, such as the town centre is!

I didnt even end up staying at this hotel. I ended up booking a travel lodge. I was ment to be staying with my son as we had filming for a youtube event at blyton park but i didnt even walk through the door. I arrived to check in and there was what appeared to be a homeless gent aswell in the door way. The revolving door has a hand written paper sign stating it was broken and the main door had a key pad on it and there wasnt any staff in sight. I immediately turn around and walked back to my car and booked the travel lodge. The pictures online are a misrepresentation of what the hotel actually looks like now from just the outside. And if you was to walk out onto the highstreet you are greeted with a street of shops that are all boarded up. It was such a shame really but in the end i didnt want my son to have the experience of staying here.

Disgusted in the service from Expedia and the hotel Booked this hotel as it had no time limit for check in.... Drove 90 mins off my route to get to it to be told check in closes at 1030pm...i told hotel this is not on the Expedia booking page and ride person hung up... Contacted Expedia promised refund, couldn't find another hotel so i had to drive another 90mins to another hotel in Sheffield arriving at 2am!! Expedia then tell me today I'm not getting a refund.... I've replied with the booking confirmation screenshot showing only 1 check in time. I'm a regular Expedia user and always usually check in late so i double check for check in periods before booking. If I'm not refunded I'll be contacting bank and this will be the last time i use Expedia.... Turned up at too many hotels via them and turned away. As for Gainsborough Hotel..... Check their reviews.... Their customer etiquette seems to fail often!!!

Not great
Last year it wasn’t too bad so we decided to stay again. The water pressure was terrible, no hot water, the whole hotel was freezing. The room wasn’t the cleanest and the beds were very firm. The breakfast was okay but didn’t have much selection.

Very run down property, electric sockets in room didn't work. TV not working, kettle not working. Dirty carpets. More like a hostel. Staff not available, then charged twice for the room which I will be claiming back. On the whole you get what you pay for so my fault for booking, should have gone to a Travelog

You had to ring the desk just get in and the hotel was being referbished. The room was so hot you needed the window open. The machinery noise outside the room was unbelievable. There was also strains on the bed. It was so bad I could not believe it.
