10/10 Exceptional

Really nice venue and people.

Nice pub with wonky rooms. Food is excellent and not expensive. Value for money. Stopped here 3 times.

Stayed here for one night and had a meal. Went for sausage and mash, the sausages were the cheapest tasting sausages I’ve ever tried, even worse than chip shop sausages, there was so little taste that I had to ask for some mint sauce to get some flavour! I left an expensive pillow there, tried calling the pub the morning to say I’d pick it up in a couple of days as I was going to stay again however when they eventually answered the phone they told me that the cleaner had thrown it out. Why they did not just contact me when they realised a guest had left something before throwing other people’s items in the bin I do not know.

It was a very nice stay. I needed somewhere for my first week of lectures in Exeter, I can't drive but the city was easily accessible by bus.

Quirky rooms fab food. Needs a returb

General room, Bedding and towels clean. Deep set dirt though due to desperate need of refurb. Black mould round shower glass, broken shower hose, perished plug for sink. Be prepared if you want an early night - you hear noise of pub till gone midnight but I didn’t have issue with that. Quirky room with sloped floor. Staff were great and food excellent, so for £40 for a night was ok in my book!

8/10 Very good

Very passable basic room for a very good price. Can't complain for the money it cost. Clean and comfortable enough and friendly staff but the shower wasn't great (broken attachment to the rail) and the coffee at breakfast was undrinkable.

This pub was very friendly and the food and drink was very good especially the real ale.We even manage to play card bingo with the locals which was a good laugh. The accommadation was good apart from it was a little bit dirty in places. I would definitely go back for another visit. Also the pub is about 15mins from Exeter.
Neil, 2-night trip

8/10 Very good

Very nice pub rooms nice and tidy, unfortunate situated overlooking the beer garden, and windows open due to heat, very noisy. Food was very good and service was spot on. Disappointed to be informed breakfast was not being served on my day of departure.

The most important thing for me on the nights I stayed was a good night's sleep. That wasn't possible on the old, noisy, metal sprung mattress in Room 8. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable and I hardly slept.
Angela, 2-night trip

The people were lovely. They brought our dinner to the room because my husband struggled with the stairs. Stairs were steep and twisting with gaps in the banister rail. The bed was very low and not particularly comfortable with a strange, lumpy duvet.

10/10 Exceptional

Spactacularly surpassed expectation!

From initial check-in, to final departure, the staff were very friendly and helpful. As it is an old thatched inn, then obviously one accepts the odd beam/head clearance problem, but the room we had was very clean, and the bed very comfortable. The food served at this pub is spectacular for taste and presentation, and is competitively priced - the extensive menu offers a wide range of dishes, all cooked using fresh produce, and the taste is superb - certainly the best we have ever had in a "pub", and a very good match to the sort of thing one can pay huge charges for in so called restaurants! The beer is also great - they have a good cellarman as well.

2/10 Poor

The staff assured me that i'd be able to get into my room when i arrived later than planned. But they didn't leave the key in the room door, so i wasn't able to get in!! Had to sleep in my car, so not a fantastic experience.

Particular concerns re. Showerroom. Cramped but more important quite a lot of mould round shower and superficial cleaning. Not an acceptable standard although we did not complain as the cost was competitive. Evening food was fine. Breakfast was OK but a bit limited, no hash browns, no sausages We would not recommend.
Susan, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

Terrible. Avoid.

It was not at all clear when booking that there was no shower in en suite and that the room was very noisy above the bar. Hoovering started at 8am. Cleanliness lacking, mouldy curtains, filthy old blind in bathroom. Breakfast was at 8am non-negotiable. No sausage with breakfast, one piece of toast each, coffee machine coffee was terrible. Bar food straight from freezer to fryer and expensive for the quality.
richard, 2-night trip

2/10 Poor

Terrible

I worked nights , Loud music and shouting from downstairs from 8am. bathroom in terrible state with saniflo not working correctly causing the toilet not to flush properly and the bathroom and entire bedroom smelling of urine on arrival. Cables under the sink and above the shower not correctly installed and could easily get water into the electrics. I’d be surprised if you have an up to date electrical certificate. I have photos to back this up.

Busy pub noisy

Busy pub they had live music on the night which was so loud the room was shaking. Noise from the road. Toilet seat was loose. Electric shower was leaking.

Bar staff polite and friendly, room a bit dated needs a bit of tlc. Tea and coffee with biscuits in room, breakfast was ok sausages dry and overcooked streaky bacon fatty hot drinks not hot and toast came out later cold and hard, the guy that served us wasn't the friendliest or very polite.

Room in an old country inn. Room fairly basic but fine for a night or two. Close enough to Exeter to be accessible. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Would stay again if in the area.

Room 1 was a disgrace. 1 hanger in wardrobe, only 1 easy chair, 1 bed table light not working. Sink plug didn’t retain water, towel rail broken. Electric powered hot water pathetic. This room is nothing like the ones shown on your website. At checkout just a cleaner around, doors were locked and we were expected to go out the back door and climb at least 10 steps to the top of the car park and round to the side door. When I pointed out my wife used a walking stick the cleaner opened the side door.
