8/10 Very good

Quiet, no frills motel. Friendly staff. Easy access.

2/10 Poor

Not what is advertised

What I booked on the website was not what I got had to change the room and still was not what I booked. Hot breakfast to them meant stick it in the non working microwave to heat it up. Never again

2/10 Poor

Terrible service. If you book on Hotels.com, they will charge you an additional $15 for each kid staying with you even if you selected the correct number of people to the room online. Total sham and worst experience I've ever had with a motel.

8/10 Very good

I came in town for the local university's homecoming and it was the only hotel available at the time when I booked. I was only in the hotel room a short amount of time, but the time I spent was surprisingly comfortable. The amenities were sufficient for what I needed which was a place to rest at night. It met my expectations for a motel, but served the purpose without issues. The only observation I would note is that the maid service only left new towels and emptied the trash, but for the short stay this was not that big of a deal. The same staff member was there when I arrived and when I left and was pleasant. I would not make this a first choice, but would stay again if required.

2/10 Poor

1-Upon arriving condoms were laying about in the parking lot. 2-The clerk couldn't find the reservation, then put us in a smoking room. 3-Lights in the room did not work, nor did the TV. 4-The breakfast consisted of food with past-due expiration dates. Yogurt was curdled and rancid, cereal was stale. When we left the room without eating the clerk said, "You shouldn't have stayed here."

Pleasant low cost place with real value

We came here for #ride2remembersc and needed close, inexpensive place. It may not look nice outside and a bit sketchy since surrounding places are chain and newer, but this has personal touch. Nice staff. Hubby mistakenly booked smoking room, I had emailed to see if can switch. Sam both called and emailed follow up to say it has been taken care of. The small statue and decor at entrance reveals personal touch. The front desk clerk that was being trained didn't know we had prepaid the room via Hotels.com so had kept insisting on payment but Sam treated both her and us kindly and took care of it. Rooms aren't fancy, but are clean (even better than some Franchise ones). Had fridge, free breakfast with real food that even hubby with several food allergies like dairy and gluten could eat. Understand why majority of their guests are repeat customers. We will be for future Ride2Remember rides too. Love the personal touches and friendly employees. Sam, I learned is the owner who had this built 20+years ago. It's his baby and the guests are friends of his baby.

Won’t Be Staying Again!

It took three times to get us a room. First time, queen bed instead of king size bed. Second time, gave me keys to a king size room. However, when I opened the door to that room, I looked into the face of a woman staring at me asking how did that happen? We both mirrored an expression shock and all, while in May and was lying in the bed. The third time, they got us a small room with a king size bed. In the morning, I was looking forward to a cuppa coffee and a piece of toast or a bagel. As it turns out, they don’t provide a continental breakfast of any sort, other than coffee, if you book online with Hotels.com so be warned. We won’t be staying there again.

WONDERFUL HOTEL!

Wow! We had a wonderful stay. As we approached the front door of the hotel, we were met by a receptionist opening the door for us! The room was very clean as well as comfortable. What a great way to end a vacation!

Very disappointing

Staff was basically treated us like second class folk because we booked with Expedia rather than directly through them. Despite our reservation saying continental breakfast was included, we were told no because we booked through Expedia. The morning clerk begrudgingly allowed us breakfast.....which was very subpar even for continental (warning...never book for hot breakfast, everything is prepackaged). This may not be true during hometown college events. Lots of other hotels at this location to chose from.

No breakfast

If you book through Expedia breakfast is not included. This hotel is just a place to sleep when nothing better is available. There was not a remote for the tv.

Poor Quality Rooms and Service

Clerk on duty was not friendly, did as little as she had to, no smile, had to ask what the room number was. Asked about the breakfast, was told it was not included when room was purchased online as the pricing was so much less online. Sink had cracks, bathroom floor near walls was filthy. Sheets did not fit bed and were bunched up, poorly made. Furniture was nicked all over. Soap, etc. was of very poor quality, towels were extremely rough.

A Hidden Gem

We have stopped at many motels going to Florida but found none as good as the Southern Lodge. Friendly employees, excellent breakfast (for a motel) and accomodations were clean. Stayed 2 nights (going to and coming back from Florida) and each stay was excellent. Would highly recommend.

Not happy

Room was not cleaned very well. Went to use the top drawer and found a pair of dirty / smelly socks. When we advised at front desk they just said we will mark that down. I obviously stared to wonder how the rest of the cleaning was done. Very cursory I am sure. The only good point it was close to highway.

Breakfast or no breakfast

Compared to similarly priced hotels in the area I found this one to be good value. The builidings are obviously old & some of the renovations have been really sloppy but generally its clean & well kept. No specific complaints. Note that this hotel like so many others offers an 'included' breakfast - unless you book through a 3rd party online such as Hotels.com - what's with that? This little discrepancy is certainly not clear on line.

Don’t Do It

Do not stay here if you can help it. Paid for a king size bed, got 2 full sizes. Roaches on the bathroom floor and in the tub. The staff was nice but the room itself made the stay uncomfortable. Was in town one night for a funeral. Should’ve paid a few bucks more for a different place.

Over priced especially when roaches are involved

I'm not typically the person to complain but when I pay a little over $200 a night to stay at a hotel I DO NOT expect to have to kill a roach crawling on the wall.

Halloween Hotel

The place was scary. The first issue (which we noticed the next morning) was the fire alarm had been pulled from the ceiling with exposed wires dangling down. Lighting was too dingy to read by, but it was probably intentional to help hide the loose wallpaper. In the middle of the night a substantial spider greeting me from the shadows of the bathroom sink, then hurried down the drain when I turned on a light. In the morning I rose to shower, but a herd of small crawling black bugs in the bathtub changed my mind. Just after that, I killed another roach-type insect crawling up the wall. We requested a non-smoking room (which was posted on the room number), but this one reeked of stale cigarettes, and there were cigarette stains on the bathtub and the sink. Perhaps “non-smoking” had to do with the lack of a fire alarm? To the credit of the management, the bed was a king as advertised, and it was clean and bug-free. The refrigerator and the TV worked fine. My husband wanted a nap after dropping me at a meeting, and check-out was supposed to be 11, but a noisy housekeeper pounded on the door at 10 and rooted him out. I suppose she had good intentions… Stay at this hotel only at your own risk if you love adventure and don’t mind creepy roommates.

Happy visit to Orangeburg

An older hotel but has been kept up very well. The staff and owner were gracious, welcoming and most helpful. Would definitely stay there if our travels take us to Orangeburg again!

Not a Five Star Hotel but Not Bad Overall

After reading some of the reviews I was leery of staying at this hotel but it was one of the last rooms available for the eclipse. This hotel wasn't the only one gouging people on the price of the room (3X the normal rate) so I can't single them out on that one. Leesha met us at the front desk. With some of the reviews I was a bit apprehensive of dealing with her but she was friendly and got us checked in quickly. The room was clean, and neat, no cigarette burns on the tub. The next morning we were greeted at the door and given the run down on breakfast. The "helpful staff" routine was a bit over done but not too off putting. With the hotel being quite full due to eclipse seekers the breakfast area was quite crowded. The microwave could be relocated to make it easier to get to with people in the room but this may only be a problem during eclipse events 8-). Over all we had a nice overnight stay. The weather cooperated and we had awesome views of the eclipse.

It's all about the people.

My brother and I traveled down for the eclipse. The hotel was old, dirty, and dated, but the staff was absolutely fabulous. They let us have the use of the room until after the eclipse was over with which was way above what they needed to do. Southern Hospitality is a wonderful thing.
