Great stop over for a few days in cairns. Really good central location

6/10 Good

Clean and contemporary however. Lovely family room with adjoining bedrooms and a kitchen. Great shower. We chose it as we wanted to turn up and eat there prior to an early flight next day snd restaurant was being renovated and we had to walk out of the hotel grounds to get to the pool. Advance warning would have been nice.

Overall it is a great hotel. Love the large sized family room. Wifi connection on TV’s didn’t work. Unable to access Netflix’s etc in room.

If you’re in Cairns it’s not for staying in the hotel. Staff was very accommodating. Rooms are smallish but clean. AC worked.

On arrival to our room, we found sliverfish on the bed and with someone nails stuck on one of the pillows. Pillows where very uncomfortable to sleep with. Bathroom had no towels or shower mat. Had to go and ask for towels.

Dated, noisy but convenient location for the aquarium and night markets. I personally won't stay here again as there are plenty of other options for a cheaper price

8/10 Very good

Staff were very accommodating. Staff at check in organised early check in at 11am. A portable clothesline was provided when suggested that this would be helpful. Room was clean and great that it could accommodate a family if 5! Easy walking distance to ferry and train terminals and restaurants.

4/10 Fair

The member of the staff that did my check-in and check-out was rude and arrogante with no skill to work at a front desk. Mercure Cairns is also quite expensive comparatively with other hotels that provide better accommodation, nicer pools and common areas for similar price or less. The lift was broken during my stay. Car park is an extra cost whilst most of the hotels of similar category in Cairns provide free parking.
Cassia, 2-night trip

6/10 Good

No clothes airer to hang any washing. 3 times reception didn't have coins for the washing machine which cost $4 each per washing load and to dry washing. The time to dry wasn't enough to dry towels. Great that it had breakfast though and a pool. Restaurant and bar were hit and miss.
Adam, 4-night trip

4/10 Fair

The room was very basic for the price charged, it was a very small room, just 2 beds, no sofa. The aircon was filthy and not very efficient. It was noisy with traffic, windows not thick enough to block out sounds from outside. We booked for 3 people but only received towels etc for two. The receptionist was very helpful and kind in sorting out extra for the third person but it was just overall a disappointing room for the price charged.
Sabrina, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

The hotel has recently been taken over by Mercure so they are still working on any issues and it will improve over time but there are some things that need to be addressed. Eg there are pigeons that make a lot of noise early in the morning on the window ledges so they need to put some bird deterrent spikes on the ledges. Also, just after I had a shower I turned the water off but then the hot water started pouring out of the shower even though the tap was turned off. It was extremely hot and I was very lucky my 6yo daughter wasn’t in the shower at the time or she may have been badly burnt. I told the reception and they moved us to another room which was quite an effort to relocate after being settled into the one we were in but we didn’t receive anything as a consolation. Eg most hotels would upgrade you to a nicer room or give you some restaurant vouchers but we got nothing. I also found it very hard to use the new tv in both rooms we were in and think they were not set up properly when installed. Also, they have a normal luggage trolley but also have a coles shopping trolley as one of their luggage trolleys which is a bit strange. Overall it was a good hotel and I would stay again but it will take some time for Mercure to get the hotel up to a good standard. It was one of the best priced hotels I could find in the city though and was in a very good location. Close to everything. Didn’t go to their restaurant though as it was too expensive.

Great welcome at reception. Very helpful and friendly. Room was clean and bed was very comfy. Good selection of drinks available. Restaurant closed for refurb but plenty of food options nearby Evan is a fantastic host and I look forward to returning to Mercure very soon. Cheers Geraint

GEORGIA, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

Mercure appears beautiful from the outside. Foyer & reception are very nice-but from there everything went downhill. Room was dark only one air conditioner worked. No room telephone although room service was offered, no menu provided, very small bathroom, 3 hangers!!for many wardrobes, no dress mirror, coffee machine leaked every time it was used. Mini bar should not have been there it only provided overpriced beer, water, wine & chocolate. Shocking. Buffet breakfast was $32 - very basic ordinary selection but it was fresh. Reception staff seemed unfamiliar with the local area. Several instructions received from them to find various shops & businesses were completely off the mark. Thank god I had the sense to then google things for myself. An unexpected plumbing problem occurred which cut water off completely from the whole property from about 6:30am to 3;00pm on day two of our stay - very inconvenient - we were offered a refund if we could relocate - that was impossible considering the short notice & high season demand in Cairns in August. When we checked out we were NOT offered any compensation/reduction in the cost of our accommodation for our DAY 2 NO WATER EXPERIENCE ie no use of shower, taps for hand washing & refilling water for coffee machine & forget about having to use a toilet!!! Noise level in corridors was unacceptable at times with children running up & down corridors, screaming & acting up. Then the room next door had very loud volume TV all night one night!!!
Diana, 4-night trip

10/10 Exceptional

We had an awesome stay. Staff were very friendly and room was very clean and comfortable. My only negative would be we booked 2 rooms both for 2 adults and 1 child, and only had 2 bath towels in each room. Otherwise it was a great stay. We will definitely be back.
