We had a great time at Elements.
It's very close to everything you'd want to see in downtown Tulum and it takes about 35-40 min to walk to the Tulum Archeological Zone and 50 min to walk to Playa Santa Fe (through Chetumal-Cancun). Alternatively, Collectivo (pubic transit) can get you to the ruins in minutes for just 25 pesos (a little over a dollar).
There is a nice ice cream shop (Aldo's Gelato) on the corner of Calle Sol Ote and Ave Coba, less than a minute's walk from the hotel. Our favorite lunch place was El Oasis Mariscos Tulum (about 10 min walk): they make the best ceviches we've ever had.
The hotel itself is very basic but all the essential things are there: a decent shower with shower gel/shampoo/conditioner, a nice clean room with a comfortable king bed, a safe deposit box, an air conditioner, a mini-fridge, an open closet with hangers, and a computer table. Our room also had a mini-bar that we didn't use as well as a balcony with a couple of chairs and a coffee table.
Breakfast was nice, we didn't have any issues with it, unlike other reviewers. The portions are large enough for most people and the quality of food was very consistent. You can choose the main plate from a few options (scrambled eggs, omelet, etc.), and every day they also serve a fruit salad and a toast with jam. All this goes with juice and/or coffee.
The staff is very helpful and is eager to help you get around and find what you need. All in all, we definitely enjoyed our stay.
