I booked one room at the Golden Gate Hotel for a 2 day stay with my wife and daughter at the beginning of feb 2023. I arrived there 5 minutes before check in and my room was not ready , so I was told that I had to wait outside of the hotel until the room was ready (10 Minutes after the check in time that was referred to the booking terms) . I was given a room in the basement of the building so I had to take my 50 pounds suitcases ( 2 of them ) down to a very steep and narrow staircase . When we arrived at the basement room and used the key ,that we were provided by the front desk, to open the door we noticed that there were somebody else’s belongings spread all over the room , the room stank, it didn’t have a bathroom (later they told me that there’s a shared one between 3 rooms) and there were steel pipes all over the room”s ceiling (see pictures). We went upstairs found the lady at the front desk and let her know, but she didn’t even bother to get downstairs to see for herself the condition of the room( I’m wondering whether she was already aware that there were someone else’s stuff in the bedroom) . She couldn’t find any excuses,so after a “short wait time” of half an hour we spoke to the manager. The manager apologized, he informed us that he could give us a room with 2 single beds ( this was far from ideal since we were 3 people ) and finally he offered us 2 rooms ( one of them had a bathroom) and no discount to the $200/ night we had booked through hotels.com.
