Very elegant former palace very centrally located for the wonderful sites, restaurants and bars Porto has to offer. Friendly helpful staff, delicious inclusive breakfast- what’s not to like! Not cheap - but well worth it

Hidden gem
Is a boutique hotel with Portuguese writer’s theme. Is a 4 story renovated/preserved building. Red carpet stairs, marble floors, etc. Staff is extremely helpful. Located conveniently in the historic center. Santa Catharina street is around the corner. The restaurant “Blind” is inspired on a novel by Portuguese writer Jose Saramago. The breakfast buffet is delicious, If weather allows it and you can have it in the courtyard, you will understand the magic of the place. If your budget allows it, try the 8 course dinner, I will not ruin the multiple surprises but it is a great experience ( non Traditional Portuguese food) . I would stay again without hesitation.

Loved the overall bold, unique and chic design of the public areas and our room. Super interesting how they integrated the original decorative features with contemporary aesthetics based on famous Portuguese authors. We stayed in one of the Royal Suites. The room was cavernous, but what we loved most was the very cool mirrored bathroom cube in the center of the room! Although we were one of the few guests staying at the time due to COVID-19, the staff was incredibly professional, kind, and thoughtful. It was my birthday while there, and the hotel sent up a lovely soap & satchet gift set up to our room for me! Highly recommend the hotel's restaurant, Blind. We had the most memorable and unique dining experience! Diners can expect a 10-12 course tasting menu comprised of "moments". Wow! But enough said about Blind, you will just need to experience for yourself! You won't be disappointed. We have traveled extensively over the years, and Torel Palace Porto is definitely one of the best boutique hotels we've stayed at. We hope to be back soon once the world is sane again.

Blended experience
The place is beautiful and my room lovely. The pool is nice and the overall atmosphere pleasant. However I had a major disapointment with the restaurant and another with communication prior to arrival. I sent an email asking for transfer and giving my day or arrival, but only got an answer 3 days after I left the hotel. When checking in, the staff explained about the Emotion dinner in the BLIND restaurant where one would either be blindfolded or eat with very dimmed light to use other senses and get a memorable experience. As I was interested, the waiter at the restaurant added that many surprices would happen to ensure we needed to use both ears, feeling and other senses but it would all be surprices and I therefore invited 2 friends to join me. However, it turned out to be a regular tasting menu of which I've done hundreds before. I was disapointed as it was not the experience I had been sold. I shared this with the Director of the hotel, who just repeatedly told me that the surprices was the different dishes (as they were not know in advance) and the other experience to which I referred was stopped due to Covid. However, staff should not sell experiences that are no longer given. I would never have paid for a regular tasting menu the only night I had in Porto. Mistakes happen, but what characterizes the quality and level of a hotel is how they are handled when they happen, and here Torel Palace Hotel left me disapointed.
