“A place of great contrasts” fits Deptford perfectly. The lively high street — with a noisy, thrice-weekly market — and the artists’ enclaves. Recent guests have stated how great the location is and an amazing breakfast can be found at Lomond Coffee by Deptford Station!
A buzz has grown around Deptford in recent years, with the term ‘the new Peckham’ being thrown around frequently in reference to the relatively low rents, lively, creative community and urban cool atmosphere that can be found here. As always, the creatives have brought a series of hip restaurants, independent shops and cool coffee cafes with them, and as Peckham’s star rapidly begins to rise the developers are now coming in droves.
The heart of Deptford is its long high street, stretching from Deptford Broadway to Creek Road. There is a busy market on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays selling everything from clothes to fish, fruit and vegetables. The market strays into Douglas Way, where there is bric-a-brac for sale, and street food stalls trade on Saturdays in Giffin Square next to the new library and Tidemill Academy.
The Deptford Film Club takes place above the Amersham Arms on New Cross Road and is part of a wider cinematic scene that also includes the Deptford and New Cross Free Film Festival (indoor and outdoor screenings).
Amazing location - only a 5 minute walk from Deptford station and New Cross station.
The rail network is excellent and you get to Canary Wharf from Deptford Bridge and the DLR, London bridge is one station away from both New Cross Gate and New Cross station and Queens road for Cannon Street. Main south east Bus depot is also based here and access into and out of London is very easy.
Direct train line from Gatwick to London Bridge which is then 6 mins train to Deptford Bridge station.
1 Mile from greenwich.
