This hotel was awesome. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We especially liked the fact that we didn't have to wear wristbands and we didn't have to reserve our dinners. This is a place for walking as everything is spread out, which was great for us because we usually use the weight room but didn't have to. Beautiful resort! The food was amazing, so much to choose from and we never got bored. Top shelf liquor was awesome although the only beer choice was dois equis or coors light. We stayed in the least expensive room there and it was still beautiful. Huge bathrooms with jetted tubs and a big balcony looking out into the jungle. We did leave the resort to go and see the area quite frequently since the Rivera is amazing in the choice of attractions and prime snorkeling spots. I would recommend if you want to save money not booking excursions through the resort and just taking the Collectivó to your destinations and paying at the door/ renting equipment because is was awesome and ten times cheaper than the excursions we booked through the resort. The resort definitely had an older crowd though which was fine by us, but if your looking for a party or nightlife there isn't much to be found unless you bring your own group of friends with. We got one of the more "economical" rooms but it was like a palatial bedroom. The king sized bed was firm, but not too firm. The jacuzzi bathtub was an unexpected treat. Debated between this and the Excellence. Went with this one since it was a couple hundred cheaper and still rated about the same. Definitely a great choice. Beautiful resort, good food and friendly staff! Highly recommend. We went for a girls' trip -- although there were a lot of couples, it was still a good spot to kick back and relax!

The hotel was outstanding. The only reason why I didnt give it all superb was our room was next to the elevator and the halls where really loud. The resort is amazingly large and interesting; the grounds well kept and invite wandering around to see all there is. Beach walking was wonderful, although the surf was crazy wild all week so snorkeling wasn't an option. The pools are such fun and the drinks offered up are tasty and many. The Valentin Imperial for the most part was a good expierence. the only bad is the front desk. Our check-in was disasterous! Arrived at 12:30 PM and were rudly informed that check-in time is 3PM. Told us we could go have lunch-drnk-walk around and come back at 3. At 3 we were told it would be another 30 minutes. At 3:30 it was going to be anorther 15 […] minutes. At 3:45 theyt said it would be another 45 min to an hour. At that point I said NO-- we want our room now- enough with this continually delaying. And out of the blue they sent us immediately.to our room! Let me say the desk people were not visitor friendly at all. Check out found inconvient problems as well as in order to pay tghem cash for our upgraded services they had to have my passport??? Passport was with carry-on luggage still not brought down from our room. The agent even told me that when Americans use American cash- they had to produce their passport. That means stores, vendors everywhere? Everywhere except Playa del Carmen and the shops in the Valentin Imperial I guess. Everything else was fine. The grounds a emaculate, the food is good to awesome, pools clean, the animal life and birds amazing. It is huge so lots of walking. Would we go back-- well we previously have stayed at the Excellence Riviera Maya which is just down the road and if we went back we would pay the extra for the Excellence. We were greeted by an extremely friendly staff who acted like they had been waiting all day for our arrival. Great resort! We are a young couple and we were looking for a fun and relaxing getaway, and this was it. We booked our roundtrip shuttle service to/from the airport through the hotel for $150 and it was wonderfully convenient. We thought about doing an excursion trip but were having too much fun at the resort to leave! We did play a lot of sand volleyball and did the ocean kayaking. This was my 4th trip back to the Valentin Imperial Maya, there are many things that keep me coming back, more to list than I care to. It seems to me that the quality of food continues to decline year after year, the breakfast and lunch are boring and all buffet style. The French resturaunt is HORRIBLE, the food seems to be pre-made and then re-heated, […] not fresh at all.The other frustration that there is no reward for my loyalty what so ever. The fs I went there I recieved a double room upgrade without the blink of an eye for free. I kindly asked to be put back in the building that I usually stay at, which is building 6, and they reacted like it would take an act of god to make that happen. So I slipped the guy some cash under the table thinking that would do the trick, he told me he would upgrade me but when I got to the room, it wasn't an upgrade. We booked one excursion thru the resort, it was the catamaran tour to isla mujeres. We were told it was "all inclusive". Not the case.snorkeling was a joke. We were in the water for 30-40 minutes and there were hundreds of people from different boats all swimming around together, most of the time was spent trying to make sure that everyone was following the leader of the right group. Kind of hard to hear the leader and see the leader when you are focusing on snorkeling which means your head is in the water. It was an absolute cluster to say the least.
