Ideal for a relaxing sea-and-sun holiday, this friendly, purpose-built, family resort offers a good selection of low-cost hotels and apartments, and lies 17 kilometres east of Heraklion. The local sand beaches have sunloungers, parasols and water sports. The main strip offers a handful of tavernas (some with live music) and bars, but night-time entertainment is generally hotel-based. The Star Beach water park is nearby in Chersonissos.

Took us a while to find the hotel initially as neither one of us had much experience driving on greek roads. We had a sea front room. There was a lot of sea algae along the beach and it did give off a distinct odor, which was noticeable as we were entering or leaving the area. However, this was only on about 1/3rd of their beach strip. Unfortunately […] our room was on that 1/3rd. The management states they are forbidden by the greek environmental agency to clear this, as it has significant implications on marine life. That I would say was the only inconvenience we felt at this place. The place and our room was very clean. Their breakfast buffet was good! A lot of restaurants and tavernas are within walking distance. We were there on our honeymoon. Also noticed a lot of families with small children and they seemed to have a lot of activities for little kids as well. 詳情

"More of a cell than a bungalow!"

We booked this "waterfront beach bungalow," thinking we were booking a wonderful place for our family. We changed our reservation from a "family suite" because we thought it would be nicer to be ocean front. We even called the hotel directly to ask them if this bungalow would be a good choice for us, and they said yes, it would be a nice option. However, […] this "bungalow" was more like a monk cell, consisting of only one room, with beds placed everywhere! The beds were so uncomfortable that springs stuck into our backs, and the bathroom floor was constantly wet from some type of leak. Additionally, those who rent bungalows are charged extra for use of beach beds. The hotel is nice enough, with a nice little beach, but do not expect a luxury vacation if you book a beach bungalow, but more like a two or three star level room. The Knossos Beach Bungalows & Suites Resort was everything I could have imagined. The white sands of the beach, the friendly staff and cordial guests make this a perfect getaway for couples and families. As an American, I was a bit of an exception, the majority of guests are European. But I didn't for a minute feel out of place. While one could easily […] spend a week (or month) just soaking up the sun and catching up on a reading list, the availability of local restaurants and outings kept my reading to a minimum.
