Hotel was well positioned for the tourist. The subway was 50 yards away which made it very easy to get around the city. The hotel was clean and very comfortable and the staff really helpful. We had a great stay and they upgraded our room. Perfect location to Empire state building and Macy's on Broadway and only a few minutes walk to times square. Staff gifted us with an iced bottle of champagne as we had told them it was our anniversary celebration trip. Clean and comfortable! Definitely a gem of a place to stay!

Breakfast great lots of choice in bagels,bread,pasteries,fruit,yog,cereals,cheese,jams,porriage,tea coffee, fruit juices, In great location lots of bars and resturants. Overall, the hotel was nice, in al old world type of way. The lobby is gorgeous and the rooms are nicely decorated. It is a bit dated and the rooms are small, but the amenities made it nice. Room was cramped, tatty, drab and dark - in spite of blinds being open or shut. Outlook into a cramped, grimy back service court was gloomy - Dickensian. Hotel was worn and badly in need of a refurbishment - rattling lift, chipped bath, smell of mould from shower curtain. Furniture well designed but scratched and not maintained. Metro Grill staff were very pleasant but the food was unhealthy, greasy and all tasted the same. Breakfast in the hotel was very basic, stingy quantities (eg orange juice) and poor presentation. Given the relatively high daily rate for a room, I found it definitely NOT value for money, even given the particular time of the year where there was high demand. Had trouble finding an available hotel that had two beds for the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving. Also wanted to be close to the subway and Penn Station. Excellent location to be able to easily access all of New York. Breakfast was good and no issues with using paper plates and plastic cutlery all better quality than they sound. Staff all extremely helpful. We had room 501, which came with the noise of the AC units from neighbouring building didn't complain as there isn't much that they can do about […] this. Very competitive price for midtown Manhatten. Large room as were all the 3rd floor rooms, judging from the floor diagram and fire escape map on back of door. Front door, lobby, elevators, hallways and rooms all appear to have been upgraded or re-decorated relatively recently. We were in and out for a one-night wedding trip so didn't have a chance to test out long-term stay. But the desk staff and concierge were polite, friendly, and helpful. The room was clean and decent-sized for New York. The wireless connection was inexcusably slow. The furniture is all run down, the desk staff are interested in guest turnover, not guest comfort. A very average experience, for that money I would rather have stayed in a less convenient spot and paid less for a better room.

I stayed at the Hotel Metro while on a business trip. The room was quite small, but very clean and the hotel was in good shape. The WiFi worked OK (and was free :-), and the continental breakfast was nice - I really liked the breakfast room. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Overall it was a positive experience and I will return.

Room was a closet, air conditioning didn't work, couldn't walk around the bed without hitting your shins on other furniture. I booked because of all the good reviews, but I was in room 901 which I very much do not recommend. I won't be going back.

This is a really nice hotel, nice staff, good location. Only thing is, the rooms are small. Can't open the bathroom door because the bed is in the way kind of small. In the shadow of the Empire State Building this hotel was really wonderful. The roof top terrace for drinks and the view of the open sky and the ESB was a superb way to start a weekend before going out for dinner. The staff of the hotel was very helpful and friendly.
