Overall the room was nice. The only thing is you could hear the people in the next room. A man was coughing all night.

Very convenient location for driving back and forth to Stanford dorms. Quiet, friendly staff, great breakfast. Only complaint: no AMC on cable, so couldn't watch "Mad Men" live. Otherwise, our favorite hotel when we're visiting Stanford children, and we've tried them all!

Loved it! Clean, comfortable, convenient. What more can you ask for?

We enjoy very much, room is cleaned, very quiet, love the breakfast, and afternoon cookies. we will be back.

The room was just so-so, the furniture was oddly configured (the bathroom door had to be completely closed if you wanted to see the television), and the bed was not too comfortable. The quality of housekeeping was inconsistent (sometimes the ironing board would be stashed away and sometimes it wouldn't, sometimes all the pillows would be put back on […] the bed and sometimes they stayed in the chair next to the bed), and the overall cleanliness of the room was so-so also (the bath drain was slow, which is a little gross in a hotel). The hotel was conveniently located and had a Walgreens across the street which was great. The rates were relatively inexpensive for the area, but I suppose you get what you pay for. Free internet and parking was nice. I will only stay here again if there are no other hotels available. I wouldn't recommend it. 詳情

This is a former motel from the 1960s, which an enterprising new owner has updated with stylish, modern bathrooms, beds, flat screens, card key locks, etc. On the exterior, he/she has done a gallant job of adding architectural enhancements that didn't break the bank (I hope), even a small Zen rock garden in the rear, and equipped the office bldg with […] a breakfast area that includes the usual Embassy Suites type offerings. No, this isn't a W Hotel. It still is, after all, a motel. They didn't spend THAT much. But as a businessman, I have to applaud the owner(s) for shooting that high. If you dislike the crowds or lengthy hallways at the big chain hotels, need to keep a low profile, or just like to keep things simple and reasonably priced, the Zen Hotel is fine place to lay your head at the end of the day. 詳情

The hotel staff needs to be better trained, sadly. Upon check in, I requested a cab and she wrote it down in a book, but the cab didn't show. The next morning it didn't arrive, so I went to the lobby to ask where it was. But there were two customers ahead of me but no staff anywhere. I went into a kitchen door and asked the cook for help. Eventually […] a young man came out and helped the other two customers. By now, I was quite late! He eventually called the cab company who had not been told to come for me! I waited a long time. To my surprise, the young man eventually offered to drive me in his own car! (He drives a Corvette!!!) Just as we were leaving, the cab came. The night before, the same front desk woman who forgot to book my cab answered a call while I was in the lobby and over time, she negotiated a room rate that was 40% less than I had paid for someone on the phone! It's a terrific hotel on the inside. The remodel is lovely, although it's obviously a really old building. Oh, yeah. We stayed when visiting our son at Stanford... The #22 bus pulls in right in front of the hotel, and drops us off at the Caltrain Station on campus... Good breakfast, GREAT cookies, wonderful staff... We'll be back...

The rooms were clean and well appointed but the walls were very thin and you could here the next door people. Cars were parked in front of the rooms and could be noisy.The set up was more of a motel than a hotel. overall, nice hotel, though agreed, it's really a motel. that said, it was the most comfortable bed I've slept in---veeeeerrry comfy! also, loved the bottled water.

A very disappointing experience despite the promising reviews on which we based our decision to stay over the New Year holiday. We stayed two nights at this ‘hotel’ – a motel by any other name. This is not a hotel, but a motel that has been renovated, but as pointed out by one of the reviews this means that you do have to put up with the noise of cars […] coming and going, and other guests talking and pulling suitcases to their rooms, and passing traffic on a very busy road. Our first night was horrendous. While there are blackout curtains, the windows in the bathroom (which open onto the bedroom – the shower and toilet is in separate room from the sink) do not, and the light from the outside balcony came into our room, and lit the room up. Other guests then talked on their cellphones after stepping outside so as not to wake guests in their own rooms! The beds are comfortable, but the pillows are made for hobbits – they are only half the size of standard pillows so I would suggest you bring your own. Breakfast in the lobby added insult to injury. Scrambles eggs were tasteless and rubbery, the bacon looked like it was man made, and the oatmeal was floating in lukewarm water. We requested to be moved for the second night to overcome the light issue. This room was much smaller and darker, but alas we were woken very early in morning by cleaning staff pushing their trollies in the parking lot. Needless to say we skipped breakfast the second day – we decided starving was a better option. Check out is at 11, but don’t be surprised if cleaning staff come knocking on your door an hour before that. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Zen! The beds were extremely comfortable, the ambiance of the room felt more like a five star resort than a little hotel on El Camino, and the service was outstanding. We visit Palo Alto frequently and will return as often as possible to the Zen.

The Zen is a motel, and has all the accompanying characteristics of one. It's noisy - when people walk from their cars, slam car doors, go into rooms. It was okay, a good value for Palo Alto.

I am an academdic that visited Stanford for a couple of weeks. The Zen Hotel looks more like a motel than a hotel and it is situated next to the busy El Camino Real. Still it was a good and calm place, and I slept well every night. I liked that the breakfast included omelette with bacon and fruit. In general Palo Alto has many bike lanes, so it is very good for biking. This refurbished motel is simply lovely. We spent two comfortable nights on the futon bed in our room. The decor was calming, both inside the room and outside, especially the courtyard fountains and the plantings. We found the Zen Hotel convenient to Stanford University and local shopping, and reasonably close to Caltrain and the freeways. It was surprisingly […] quiet for being on El Camino Real. This was my first time to the area and reviewed several motels in Palo Alto. The Zen was fabulous, very comfy and large rooms. I was most surprised by the small garden, patio and fountain outside the back door of my room. I would return to the Zen Hotel.

Is in a very convenient location, clse to Stanford University. Great value for a business traveler, a definite repeat for me in future visits to the area.

I was surprisingly pleased with my stay at the Zen. Not that I had heard bad things about it, on the contrary, I chose the spot because of the good reviews I had read. What surprised me was how homey my room felt and how warm and helpful the service was. The hotel is quite lovely - bright and spacious while maintaing an intimate character. The rooms […] were minimalist in decor: greens and muted oranges, dark woods, bright whites. The waterfall shower made my morning! The in-room fridge and microwave were a surprise convenience. Loved the buffet breakfast and coffee in the mornings. The surrounding neighborhood was safe, quiet and a very quick drive up to Stanford University. I was extremely disappointed to leave The Zen, especially when I arrived at our dark, smelly Holiday Inn in San Francisco. I highly recommend staying here. 詳情

Refurbished older hotel done nicely. Quiet room for being on a fairly busy street. Breakfast bar was what you would expect for self serve, but did have fresh OJ and good coffee. Close to bus line and easy to get to Stanford campus.

I was very surprised when I pulled up to the 'Hotel' Zen and found that it s a 'motel'. I am a woman who is accustomed to traveling on business by myself. I did not feel safe, even in Palo Alto, having a room where the door opened to the parking lot. It was also noisy listening to cars coming and going. Our stay was for 4 days/3 nights, and we were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It was cozy, comfortable, clean and very "Zen". Our room was in the back corner of the main level, which was very quiet. We had no issues at all. Check in/out was a breeze & the staff was very friendly. Due to a "system error", Zen had us in a single queen room when I had reserved 2 queen beds for 3 adults. Spend 1st night in a double/double because they were sold out, and they moved us the second night. Room was clean and beds were comfortable. Great breakfast - hot entrees, cereal, pastries, bagels, etc.

I stayed at the Zen Hotel the night after I dropped my child off for freshman year at Stanford. The Zen more than delivered on the pampering front -- the staff was professional and kind, the room decor was soothing, there was a nice collection of amenities in the room, and a Starbucks directly across the street. THIS IS A REFRESHING QUIET PLACE TO STAY AND VERY CLOSE TO STANFORD HOSPITAL AND SHOPPING CENTER

My biggest complaint is the carpet in my room was wet in various areas. I am assuming it is some carpet cleaner but i had to wear flipflops inside. It was wet for the whole week's stay. I didn't complain because I didn't have time and didn't want to deal with moving rooms. Bed mattress was really soft and curved on one side so i slept on the other. […] It's a reasonable place if you're staying for a short business trip. But I wouldn't take my family there. Finally better wake up early otherwise car chirps when people leave in the morning may wake you up. This is a converted motel that now has a boutique feel to it. Very convenient, and close to Trader Vic's!

I stayed six nights and was very impressed. The room is very comfortable and quiet. The service was impeccable. The breakfast was fine. I liked the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit to Palo Alto.

I was initially hesitant about staying at this hotel, but it actually was very pleasant. From the outside, it may appear to be an upscale motel, but the hotel does everything in its power to make the room inside feel like a real hotel. It was extremely clean with up to date amenities. Also, there were 2 free bottles of water every day and free breakfast […] in the morning. As for the breakfast, it was a normal breakfast of eggs, toast, danish, fruit, cereal, yogurt, etc. But a very good value considering the price of the hotel. If you're in town for business and need a quiet nice hotel for the night, I would not hesitate to stay here. Both my husband and I know Palo Alto very well and when I saw the Zen hotel on a 'drive-by' I was interested in staying there. It was better than I thought it would be and with Hotel.com, a bargain! This hotel was absolutely beautiful. The front desk was very nice and accommodating, even allowing me to check in several hours early. If you are looking for something along the lines of a Kimpton or Westin, you probably will be unhappy, but if you are satisfied with Best Western or Holiday Inn's than you will be more than happy. It's obvious they put […] great consideration into the upgraded decor of this newly renovated room...the outside of the building looks like it could be hit or miss, but it's a definite hit. Comfortable, relaxing and very well done. I also love that they give you free water bottles in the room! My only complaint would be the walls are thin and it is easy to hear your neighbor, however when I checked in they made it clear to me that quiet was important. The Zen Hotel was a truly beautiful and relaxing place. I would highly recommend to anyone who needs to stay in the Palo Alto area. Very convenient location (lots of restaurants nearby), great hot breakfast service, comfortable & beautiful rooms, and very friendly staff. I will stay again!
