The perfume industry in Grasse dates from the 16th century when local tanners used flower fragrances to scent their speciality soft leather gloves. The Musée International de la Parfumerie explains the extraction processes, and all the larger factories provide free tours. Grasse has a fascinating old quarter with several interesting museums. Place du Cours has lovely sea views. Visit in August for the Jasmine Festival.

"Get the GPS if driving to Grasse!!"
My small map of what I thought was a small easy town, were very inadequate for finding this hotel. Directions should be made more clear, or at least look it up. When we finally arrived weary and frustrated, the hotel staff was wonderful about making us feel welcome and refreshed. The pool was wonderful, and the terrace restaurant very agreable. "Mercure Grasse"
The room was extremely small, and there was not a place to hold both of our luggage. The AC in the room was not working. A technician came to fix it. After notifying the hotel that the AC was not fixed, we were advised to have it run for few hours in order the cool the room. After few hours, we notified the receptionist that the AC was still not working […] and we had to open the windows because the heat was unbearable at the room. Instead of showing any understanding, she was argumentative, and blamed us that the reason that the AC was not working is because we had the window opened. Hadde ei fin uke på Mercure. Det meste svarte til forventningene. Fine rom, god service, deilig frokost, helt grei mat også i restauranten. Airconditionen gav ikke kald nok luft om natten. Da ble det for varmt. Hadde vært fint om hotellet lå nærmere sentrum. Det tok 40 minutter å gå. Slitsomt i varmen. "Un hotel confortevole e pulito con una cucina ottima"
Abbiamo soggiornato a Grasse al Mercure per due giorni. L'hotel non è nel centro città ma ha un ampio parcheggio e comodo da raggiungere. Le stanze, non grandissime, sono curate e pulite. Il servizio è molto cordiale. L'hotel dispone di un buon ristorante con un menu vario ed economico e con una ottima qualità. Abbiamo mangiato con un costo ragionevole […] (20 euro) cibi provenzali ottimi. La cucina si è però anche data molto da fare per accontentare un nostro amico, che mangia solo poche cose e sempre le solite, cucinando un filetto ben cotto come lui desiderava.
