"Okay for the money"

"Pleasant stay"
This is a very nice hotel in SW Topeka within a short walk of the Topeka Convention Center. We were in the area for a basketball game in Lawrence, but every good room there was booked, so we stayed in Topeka. And I'm glad we did! This hotel had everything we needed and it was a nice place to stay. The room was clean and quiet. We had a king size bed […] with sofa and desk. The bathroom was ample sized and well featured. We got a great Valentine's package room rate which was much cheaper than we would have gotten anywhere in Lawrence. Overall, we really liked the hotel and plan to stay here whenever we're back in the area for another basketball game. Although the hotel restaurant offers a good looking breakfast buffet, we recommend Hanovers at SW11th & S. Kansas Ave. for breakfast. "In town for a visit with family"

"Near the capital building"
I stay in less expensive hotels that furnish microwaves and refrigerators with the room and do not charge extra, The frig I received for medical reasons froze the contents by morning. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. It was cold in the morning in the restaurant section while eating breakfast. Food was good, but became cold in about 5 minutes […] due to air temp. "HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED!"
This was the worst stay that we have ever had at the Capitol Plaza Hotel. We are here frequently for Gun Shows next door at the Expo Center. We booked our room online with Hotels.com for two nights. On Saturday night, our sleep was interrupted at 1:00 a.m. by a "wedding party" that booked the Governor's Suite, conjoined to our room. They slammed doors, […] partied, yelled and bad-mouthed us most of the evening. We had to call security twice to get them to be quiet. The occupants were upset that we turned them in, so they stood right next to the conjoining door to our room and bad-mouthed us most of the evening. They said that they rented our room and the Hotel gave it away to us and if we didn't like their partying, then we could leave. The occupants knocked on our doors several times, just to irritate us. The Hotel offered us a "free breakfast" with a note that was put under our door sometime during the night, apologizing about the situation. We had to be at our show right away that next morning and did not have time for a breakfast. The Hotel did not offer any other type of compensation for this and we will probably not be back, because of it. We stay here because it is right next to the Gun Show, so it is convenient. "recent stay at capital!"
what my husband and I like in a room is #1, cleanliness, I think the room was above standard for that! the only complaint that I had was no phone book anywhere in the room! I have copied your comment to my Director of Housekeeping services, and she will show it to her staff. We always love getting comments like these. We stopped putting phone books in the rooms last year, due to our Green Initiatives. It is estimated that 660 tons of phonebooks end up in landfills each year. We have a touch screen kiosk near the front desk, as well as a rack brochure for common destination areas, and phonebooks at the front desk if needed. "Need to use king-size sheets on king-size beds!"
On the plus side, it was a wonderful surprise that they left chocolate- covered strawberries in our room for our anniversary! The room was mostly attractive and quite clean, and the mattress was comfortable. On the minus side, the sheets were too small, so the fitted sheet wouldn't stay on the mattress...very uncomfortable. We notified the desk about […] this problem. I assumed the sheets would be changed each day, as there was no notice to the contrary, but we saw the same spot of chocolate from the above-mentioned strawberries on the sheets the second night. The jacuzzi jets did not work, which had several guests grumbling. We never choose hotels without a jacuzzi, due to arthritis, etc., and I wouldn't have thought to have to ask them if all their amenities worked before making our reservation! The management knew about the problem, but maintenance did not arrive during our stay. For an otherwise lovely hotel room, there were some jarring flaws. There was a large crack between the bathroom sink bowl and the marble top. It was too large a gap for even caulk to fill. The sofa bed looked very dated. We placed a wake-up call for 5:45 AM. We got that, but also got one at 12:30 AM! Although I spoke with the front desk regarding these issues, the response was generally "Oh, OK. I apologize that the sheets did not fit your bed properly. We change the guests sheets every 2 days. I am sorry there was not a notice in your room. The whirlpool jets do work, but upon inspection I noticed that 2 nozzles are missing. These have since been ordered, and will be installed soon. Thank you for letting me know of this situation. I have asked my Engineering team to keep an eye out for the sink with the gap in it, and also have spoke with the Front Office Manager regarding the service of the front desk staff. I appreciate you bringing these issues to my attention, as this will only help us to take better care of our future guests.

"Everything was very nice, as well as the food!"
The staff was very efficient and helpful, the room was clean and well appointed. The view of the parking lot may have been a bit nicer from a level higher than the 3rd floor, but we weren't there to enjoy the scenic view of Topeka, but rather to have a restful sleep, which was duly accomplished.
