There is a lot to like about the Carlton. The location is accessible, the facility is clean, attractive, and upscale. I found most of the staff to be friendly and helpful. The room was a bit small and we did hear a little noise from the hallway, but nothing problematic. The only issue I had was the hotel initially refused to honor the Hotels.com breakfast […] portion of my reservation. After some prodding, the gave us one voucher even though they knew there were two persons in our party. Fortunately Hotels.com went out of their way to make it up to me. I live in NYC but wanted to treat myself. I thought the hotel was great. The staff was excellent, very accommodating and friendly. The rooms are comfortable and a decent size. The lobby is very inviting. I didn't try the hotel bar but it looked nice from a distance. The location is pretty good. The Carlton is a decent hotel located in Midtown. It's a (short) block and a half from the subway. The hotel staff was very friendly, the room was very clean, although there were scratch marks all over the wall and furniture (like someone had a throwing-things-at-each-other style fight in there at some point). Very comfortable, nearly time for an update […] though. Watch out--the tiny bottle of water sitting by the television can set you back more than the cost of a meal. "Brilliant hotel - cant wait to go back"
Everything about our stay at the Carlton was amazing. The staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough to help, the hotel its self was impressive...the lobby is beautiful and the decor was just as impressive throughout the hotel and the rooms. We were expecting the usual small room in NYC but were pleasantly surprised to find a brilliant sized double, […] lots of space, great sized comfortable bed and well equipped bathroom. The view was the classic brick wall but that didn't matter at all. House keeping came every day and the room was always left spotless. We didn't get a chance to sample the bar or restaurant but both looked great. The restaurant had an excellent write up and we wished we had the time to fit that in too. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone visiting New York. The location is fab - very easy to walk to Macy's, Empire State Building and beyond. as with every where in NYC, there are plenty of cabs passing too. "Traveling With Your 83-Year-Old Dad,? Stay Here!"
There was supposed to be five of us: Ex-wife, 20-year-old daughter, 15-year-old son, 83-year-old father and myself. I booked the Empire Suite which sleeps 5 with two double beds, a sleeper sofa and a rollaway. We had tickets to Garrison Keillor's, "Prairie Home Companion" live NPR Christmas show at the the Town Hall Theater at 123 W. 143rd. But at the […] last minute, the Ex and the kids couldn't go. We decided to keep the suite for my father and myself and was glad I did. Room had a view of the Empire State Building. Beds were comfortable. Bathroom was massive and well-appointed. We had a light lunch in the Cafe Bar just off the lobby and Jason the bartender from Iowa was the first of many phemomenal Carlton employees we would meet. (Father didn't complain) Saw the show from 6-8pm on a Saturday. Walked back to the hotel and had a 9pm dinner reservation at Millesime. I'm typically not a fan of hotel restaurants but this was a rare exception. It's a seafood brasserie and one of the better ones around Manhattan. And it was the restaurant reviews online that sold me. Oysters, butternut squash soup, seafood puff pastry and cod entrees--all very good! Delightul breakfast there the next morning. And as we checked out my father told the staff at the Carlton front desk that he would stay here again because they only hired nice, bright people! All things considered? A successful Christmas trip! "OK except for problems with parking"
Very nice room. Our big problem was with getting our car from the valet parking. Trying to get to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade early, we called for our car at 4:30am for pickup at 5:30am. An hour's notice seemed plenty to us. The car did not arrive until 6:05am. It was a good thing we were not trying to catch an airline flight. There seemed to […] be a lack of concern for the situation. This was in contrast to our arrival when we found our room to be soggy. The lobby is really beautiful, and has the restaurant Millimeme attached to it. Staff was friendly and the room was small, but comfortable. They were taping some sort of movie scene however, and it made getting in/out of the hotel very difficult in the evening.
