It was a perfect hotel for a 24-hour visit....close to the casinos and the lake, close to shopping and restaurants. The room was clean and quiet. Our only disappointment was that, as we have found for the last 2 hotels we've booked on hotels.com, the hot tub/spa wasn't working and, as they said at the other "hotels.com hotel", "it just broke today and […] we're getting maintenance on it but it won't be fixed in the next few days". The hotel is ok for a short stay. The room smelled like cigarettes and the bed was very uncomfortable. I woke up with a sore back. Like I said, ok for one night but anymore, go somewhere else.

Traveled with family for a day of snowboarding. Location was close to slopes. We were all tired and ready for showers in a comfortable room. Room was beyond freezing and all the the lamps were not plugged in. It took over 3 hours before the room was heated. Not ok. Really, couldn't have had a better stay in South Lake @ the Howard Johnson! Staff was friendly, room was clean, parking was easy, and they gave us absolutely no stress about our dog. We stayed two nights and this hotel. It was my worst experience in Tahoe so far. The room was smelling like someone just smoke inside (it was a non-smoking room). We had to buy some air fresheners to be able to stay... we sprayed the whole room, open all windows, but the smell just didn't go away. It was a really bad experience... I think it's just […] terrible to give your guests a room like that. The carpet was really dirty and torn. Very old. You can tell that no matter how much someone can vacuum the carpet, the smell won't go away. All my belongings are smelling like an ashtray. We will not come back here. We had a great time and the room was nice. Very much worth the money. The heater took a little while to kick in, but it was 22 degrees the nights we stayed. I would certainly recommend this place.

I was really thinking that it wasnt going to be a great place once you drive up, but once in the room i was in aw. The room is so clean and nice as well as the sheet and pillows. great mexican restaurant not even a block away. i will definatly come back and stay here again.

The hotel was really nice to stay at for a vacation at South Lake Tahoe. It wasn't too far from Heavenly and has shuttles going there before 6 for free. However these shuttles weren't really on track and were very confusing to understand but that isn't due to the Howard Johnson. The hotel was really nice and clean, as well as comfortable. The only downsides […] to me, were the heater was confusing. You turn it all the way to heat with is "12" and it is a fan of cold air. You have to turn it to 8-9. Also the breakfast somewhat sucked. The staff was very friendly and hard working. The room was very nice. It would have been more convenient to have a microwave.

The motel is showing signs of age. The rooms, though clean and comfortable lacked space. The restroom was very small and only had a shower. There were two bath towels and two half towels . You had to look hard for an electrical outlet, because they were not visible on the wall. We spent 3 nights here the hotel staff is excellent I travel a lot for work and have never met a more friendly staff. Rooms are small but perfect for a fun weekend. Rooms are very clean as well.Decor is old but honestly I wasnt planning on hanging out in room. I will stay here agian it is a great value and very pleasent place.

This hotel is a bit dated, but it was clean, comfortable,quiet and conveiently located. A nice continental breakfast is provided and the staff was pleasant and helpful. The price is right and will certainly stay here again.

It has been one of the most clean and nice hotel I have been on my trip along Utah,Nevada,Arizona and California, better of the same price hotel on the Strip of Las Vegas(Excalibur, Imperial), I'm very satified, also the person at reception where always helpful to all the request I had.

Everything was great!

We enjoyed out stay and they even were able to give us an additional room when we arrived since we had an extra person at the last minut. The room was comfortable, the shower was a little low and kept going from hot to cold but was okay.

ok for a place to sleep, if not by the stairs and not with a parking light right outside the bathroom window which lit up the whole room.

THIS IS NOT A PET FRIENDLY HOTEL AT ALL!! I have a very bad experience with my dog there. the owner assigned me a second floor room but was shouting to me when she sees my dog after a night stay. She said " DOGS ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO GO ON THE SECOND FLOOR OR STAY IN THE SECOND FLOOR ROOMS" There are no signs posted anywhere says that, she did not told […] me ahead and I was requested a first floor room but she told me they are all full ( I paid for the full amount weeks before I arrived ) !! She even charged me ridiculous amount of additional fee on my credit card without my authorization!!! Because she said that " SHE HAS TO WASH THE LINENS AND THE WALL in the room!! SHE SAID IT'S A PENALTY !! I wonder IF THEY WASH LINENS for those who DO NOT have pets with them or not.... HER DOG IS ALLOW TO WALK IN AND OUT OF THE PUBLIC DINING AREA WITHOUT RESTRICTIONS!! I think that is what it means " A PET FRIENDLY HOTEL!!" Beside, the owner stays in the hotel 24/7 walking around and checking on the customers .. I felt that I was staying in a home stay with home mom rather than staying in a hotel... As to the room, the king bed is big enough but the Restroom is very very SAMLL~~~ The breakfast only serves 2 hours every morning and they do not refill what has already ran out. I went there at 9:00 AM and simply want to get some juice but it was already out with NO MORE refills.. I was disappointed about their customer service, Their rudeness, Expensive but NOT FRIENDLY TO PETS AND CUSTOMERS, and the cleanliness of the room..... What I only like is the small fridge in room . Very close to everything, customer service is excellent, room was quiet. However, it is a very old hotel and it does show: pink painted walls, a very tiny standup shower that was so dark that I hardly knew if I was reaching for the shampoo or the soap(plus the shower drain does not drain well and the water backs up). The only other issue, as everyone […] has mentioned is the lack of outlets. The ONLY accessible outlet was in the bathroom next to the door, so thats where the electronics spent their time charging. All in all, the price was one of the cheapest in the area, and I reminded myself that I did not come to Tahoe to spend every minute inside a hotel, so the cons really didn't bother me too bad. The customer service was excellent and the continental breakfast was very good. The rooms clean but very old and worn, old repairs were evident and updating and painting needed. The mattress was new and very comfortable.

The hotel was clean and looked like it had just been remodeled. New shower door and shower head. As stated by others, the parking was a challenge. That was also due to the fact that the other guests aren't very good at keeping in the lines. I enjoyed my stay and would recommend this hotel to others.

Next time this place gets remodeled, they might want to consider travel in the 21st century. All available plugs were behind furniture and taken up with floor lamps; coffee machine, cellphone, Nook, and computer use required unplugging the hairdryer in the bathroom. I really do not know what I was expecting from a two star hotel even though it was advertised as three star. Anyway, it was not exactly what it looks like in photo. The hotel staff tried hard to make the place very comfortable for us and provided pertinent information that really made our stay enjoyable. OUr room was neat and clean.It was quite .The room worked for us.The only thing that could inprove is that they dont open the office on time.One day it was 15 to 20 min late other than this our over all stay was nice.

We booked our room here due to wanting an inexpensive place to stay for a night. Its location was great and fairly close to everything we wanted to see and do. We drove to most places, but could be walkable if you wanted to. There's a breakfast place right next door. The room itself wasn't great, but not horrible either. The comforter was snagged and […] beaten up. The bathroom had patches on the walls and the window in the bathroom wouldn't shut all of the way nor lock. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows weren't so great. Its a case of you get what you pay for. It was quiet (didn't hear any road noise) and they allowed our dog to stay with us for a low nightly fee. If you just want a place to crash, go for it. I don't see how some people gave this hotel a 5 rating, unless they own/manage it. Like I said, it wasn't horrible, but I won't be staying here again. The innkeeper was nice and welcoming, but the hotel itself left a lot to be desired. The bathroom light didn't work. The toilet ran 24/7. The hairdryer never got warm. The light on the nightstand only […] worked if the cord was in a perfect position. The whole place just looks like it needs a deep cleaning and a paint job. Although you could tell that the rooms are cleaned after each guest, it has the feel of an old/dirty motel in a bad part of town that charges $25 a night. We stayed for two nights there. The beds and shower were clean but the chairs need more cushion.

The parking was a challenge, we had to park a long way from our room. The bathroom was clean and so was the room. It was very noisy but did quiet down by 1 or 2 am. Ok for a quick, cheap night in Tahoe.

My favorite places were booked so i gave the HoJo a try. It turned out to be a good place to stay for future snoboard trips if our faves are booked or this is a particulalry great deal. Good quality for a ski trip. We spend very little time in our hotels so being safe and relatively clean is all we really need. I would not want to stay here if we were going to be spending a lot of time in the room. They do have free wireless, but I was constantly disconnected from it on one of the nights. We stayed here because it was inexpensive and within walking distance to the beach (for the fireworks on the 4th). It was an average, clean room. My only complaint is the size of the parking spots.

Bodde här under två nätter och jag tycker det 'r ett helt ok Hotell som ligger ca 2 minuters gång till stranden. Letar man efter ett boende där man inte ska spendera hela dagen på hotellet så rekommenderar jag det.

Sehr freundliches Personal. Zimmer eher gross und sauber.

Super beliggenhed, hyggeligt, men noget usikker service på hotellet :)
